The truth is this video is a fake. At heart it is an ad for Hi Tec Shoes but it was so cleverly done that it started a sporting craze – liquid mountaineering. The truly sad or perhaps in some cases humorous conclusion is of course that no one can actually run on water. What later came out in subsequent interviews is that there is a wooden structure with springy running surface hidden just below the surface. It still made for a very successful video garnering over 11 million views and hundreds of videos showcasing people trying to run on water. Hats off to the agency behind this viral ad success.

While the song has words I don’t believe they influence the story. The emotion is really created through the images and the melody. It could ultimately be sung in any language.
