A cute cat can get you millions of hits on youtube…how silly!

A few years ago babies in commercials were extremely popular. It all started with the E Trade babies and then were closely followed by a slew of other baby ads.

The times have now changed and cats have become the new babies. If you take a look at YouTube you’ll see that a cute cat can get you millions of hits. How silly!

I keep telling Lauren that we need to use this information to our benefit and put my new feline brother to good use. He’s only 4 months old but since day one he has been good for a laugh. I’ve never known a cat tolike water yet Mochi, that’s his name, wants to drink out of the toilet and paddle in our water bowl. What has the world come to?

So the next time you are watching TV, pay attention to the cat ads. You’ll find them in cell phone ads all the way to Ikea commercials. Don’t be mistaken though, dogs have not had their day, we’re just taking a “cat” nap.

Mochi:

This is where you spend your attention…This is where they spend their advertising.

We use our smartphones (and tablets) for absolutely everything these days. And with an ever growing list of things that can be achieved by using these ubiquitous handheld devices, it’s really no surprise that we find ourselves spending much of our day staring lovingly (or should that be ‘zombie-like?) into their glowing screens.

The smartphone revolution has created a unique opportunity for advertisers; they are now with us wherever we go, they literally live in our pockets or purses while we get on with our lives, and they can spring into action to gather important demographic information whenever we use our device to check our email, use an app, or shop online.

And yet, with this plethora of useful information, advertisers are not making the most of this growing mobile advertising opportunity.

Why? Well, it appears that advertisers still love print, even though more consumers these days choose digital format for a significant part of their media consumption, as highlighted in the graph below.

Soon advertisers will realize that they are misspending in this area, that they are not investing sufficient time or money in advertising to meet the needs of their mobile consumers. Smartphone usage continues to grow at an explosive rate, and the smartest advertisers will grow with it.

Which reminds me, I must ask my Smartphone something…

“Siri, how do I block Ads on my phone?”

The graph above was featured in a very interesting article on this matter, written by Richard Ting for ‘The Atlantic’. You can read the full article here.

It takes a very specific thinker to create a memorable advertisement.

It takes a very specific thinker to create a memorable advertisement. Creative agencies are filled with teams that have the ability to come up with extremely clever marketing messages along with design teams that push those ideas a little further when they create the printed pieces.

I’m really inspired by the following advertising campaigns and can’t help but think of where those creatives were or what they were doing when that idea popped into their heads!

Motivation to get fit…

Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful…
